You might notice a lot of ladies saddling up tomorrow (Saturday, September 9th) for “Cowgirls for a Cure.”
What Is It?
Cowgirls for A Cure is an annual event hosted by Sanford Health. This year it’s being held at the Beard Arena in Menoken, North Dakota.
Women come together from all across the state to barrel race and raise money to support women who are battling breast cancer. What a unique way to raise funds!
Where Does The Money Go?
According to Sanford, this event has helped them purchase a 3D mammography machine, which is crucial to early detection.
As a result, 14,000 women were able to receive a 3D mammogram in our community.
The source says, that money raised also goes to things you might not even think about people needing. This fundraiser helps to pay for gas cards and hotel vouchers for people traveling and receiving treatments.
The money also goes to something called the “Look Good, Feel Better” program. The program offers wigs and head coverings to cancer patients. It even offers a session with a cosmetologist to learn how to apply makeup with patients’ skin is changing from treatments and medications. This is another opportunity to help women who are battling breast cancer. We live our lives and sometimes forget what so many women in our community are facing.
There is still time to register if you are interested in riding and fundraising. If you’re not interested in barrel racing, you can make a donation to the cause and/or to the riders to help them reach their fundraising goals.
