North Dakota man gets 40 years for sexually abusing 6-year-old, sharing videos of abuse

FARGO — A Lisbon, North Dakota, man has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for sexually abusing a 6-year-old and sharing recordings of that abuse online.

U.S. District Judge Peter Welte sentenced 29-year-old Craig Leroy Gregor on Tuesday, Sept. 5, after the defendant pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor, as well as possession and distribution of child child porn.

“This four-decade sentence is more than justified considering the defendant’s breathtakingly abhorrent crimes,” North Dakota U.S. Attorney Mac Schneider said Wednesday in a statement.

Court documents said Gregor sexually abused the young child between September 2020 and November 2021 twice while filming the abuse. The videos were then shared with others on the internet, according to a news release.

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation said it found more than 400 files of suspected child porn in Gregor’s possession when they conducted a search warrant of his phones, according to a criminal complaint. Some images depicted children as young as 3 years old, the complaint said.

Gregor was initially charged last year in Ramsey County District Court with multiple charges of gross sexual imposition, promoting or directing an obscene sexual performance by a minor and possessing certain materials prohibited by North Dakota law. Those charges were dismissed so federal prosecutors could pursue their case.
